On January 27, 2007, Dr. Doug Owsley, Curator and Division Head of Biological Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution, and his forensic team went to St. Luke’s Church to exhume the remains of Joseph Bridger buried in the chancel. With 20 Bridger descendants looking on, the History Channel recorded the exhumation, which is briefly shown in the 2007 program Save Our History: Written in Bone.
The remains were taken to Washington, D.C., for study at the Smithsonian Institution and were later reinterred in the church in 2014.
